I am wearing my white Brazilian dress with big black Brazilian ants on it, and I cover my bare shoulders with a colorful silk shawl with tiny celebrity faces: from Hitler to Jesus.

It is about to rain outside, one of those tropical storms is coming. But inside the barn-like temple, it is stuffy and misty with incense, like a science fiction movie-set from the 1930s. My eyes are burning, my nose is running, but I am glimpsing incredible figures and paintings on the walls, on the brick labyrinths, numerous thrones, veil like fabrics…. The Temple of Dawn worships UFOs, Tutankhamen, Jesus, the disembodied spirit of an Indian chief named White Feather… name it. “Aunt Neiva,” the cult’s prophet and founder, created the church in a trance some 50 years ago.

Srebrenica Anniversary: The Design of Crime

Today is the 15th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, Bosnia, where more than 8000 Muslim male civilians were killed and their bodies buried in mass graves scattered all over the region. Slobodan Milosevic, the president of Serbia at the time of the killing, died in the Hague in 2006, before any verdict was reached in his trial. The UN Dutch troops present in the enclave of Srebrenica at the time, in order to protect the civilians, did not face any charges for failing in their duty. Radovan Karadzic, the Bosnian Serb leader responsible of  designing this crime  is currently on trial in The Hague, at the International War Crime Tribunal. General Ratko Mladic, whose troops carried out the massacre under his orders, is still at large.

In the year 2007, Serbia proper was found guilty of failing to prevent the genocide, but not for actually committing it. Many of the large number of people and troops involved in liquidating the Srebrenica prisoners never appeared before any court.  Others received very mild sentences for smaller misdeeds, such as the six members of the paramilitary troops “Scorpions.”

Dragan David Dabic?

Za mene ova prica tek pocinje. Radovan Karadzic ce zavrsiti uskoro u Hagu ali sta ce biti s Draganom Dabicem? Bojim se da ce njegovi tragovi biti unisteni, istina zataskana, izmanipulisana. Nestace kao lik iz sapunske opere. Ali taj covek je ziveo sa nama medju nama 13 godina! Evo 20 pitanja to whom it may concern…

Slucajno, iduci kod caleta, juce sam naletela ispred skupstine u pola dva na demonstrante koji su se skupljali da protestuju ispred americke ambasade. Otisla sam na rucak a onda svratila do njih na kraj parade.

Seselj to the Hague

Dosta ljudi, mnogo vise nego sto sam ocekivala, nekoliko hiljada. Dosta starih ljudi, vrlo ozbiljnih i tuznih. Prodavci serpskih pop hitova Mladica Karadzica Seselja takodje su tu. Pitam jednog odakle vam ova majica ( na kojoj pise pusi Hag/Seseljev lik)…ne znam odgovara misteriozno a onda dodaje, mozda i znam…pocinju govorancije, neki meni nepoznati ljudi popovi…deca i devojke u narodnoj nosnji stoje kao ukopani na bini…potpuno nebeske govorancije…grobovi gazimestan hramovi…onda pesme u obliku kuknjave umesto govorancije…i sve to presecano uzvicima kosovo…sloboda…ceda heroin…amerika dole…rusijo help…Jedan govornik je onda iz cista mira napravio plan da svi koji su ostali bez kuca stanova i rodbine odu kod Cede i Natase Kandic na gajbu…velike ovacije…Jedan stariji potpuno izludeo covek poceo je da vice i da se probija kroz tesne redove: sklanjajte se, bolestan sam, potrebna mi je pomoc, hitna pomoc…nastane panika, stize hitna pomoc…odvedose ga…policija je bila svuda ali atmosfera je bila izuzetno mirna i pomirljiva. Osecanje koje je vladalo tom gomilom bilo je neki neizmeran strah. i paranoja Nesto mi bi tesko na srcu, neko bi trebalo da pridje i kaze tom narodu nesto razumno na njihovom jeziku, da ne budu sami sebi najveci neprijatelj.
